In light of the uproar yesterday at the City Council meeting between Mayor Spossey, councilwoman Ullom and councilman Staniszewski and the accompanying article in the local Observer Reporter newspaper titled "Tempers flare at council meeting" I offer the following. The conduct is childish at best for our elected officials to behave as they have done here. In a post some time back I made my position on the overall situation at City Hall, and I stand by it now, more than ever. I do not pretend to have the knowledge of how the city finances are determined, that's why we have supposedly trusted elected officials to administer these things. And though I find the situation surrounding Mr. Staniszewski certainly unpalatable I do have to concur with his question; "where did the tax increase go?" I do know that my real estate taxes increased significantly because of the 30 mill increase. Now the city is facing a possible $400,000 deficit?? Explanations are in order from City Council, not the screamfests that we seem to be getting.
